MSC develops and implements advancements in infectious disease initiatives through scientific research, analysis and clinical support. We provide medical domain expertise, as well as system, data, and laboratory management. We also advance new bioinformatics and computational biology methodologies which influence approaches to high-performance computing, scientific software development, and derivation of computational algorithms.

MSC focuses on effective full life-cycle IT support for heterogeneous environments. We ensure the appropriate development, maintenance, security, and reliability of important data, information networks, and software tools. We develop and optimizes various IT environments, including custom research environments, to help manage, clean, and prepare data for use by government agencies, scientific researchers, and the public.
MSC provides support for application design, development and maintenance, and software engineering support. MSC’s software support aids the continued growth and evolution of Government relational and non-relational databases and information systems. MSC implements and maintains new methods of biomedical data management, computing, retrieval and analysis, and re-engineer key system components to improve performance, functionality and reliability. MSC helps leveraging technologies such as cloud computing for managing the demand for greater computer power and the increase in data storage. MSC’s assistance of Government software application development often requires expertise that integrates skills in bioinformatics and computer technology within the context of the biological sciences. Consequently, our software application development and computer support spans a wide spectrum of data sources, serves both a specialized as well as a broad community of users, and is responsive to the rapidly evolving fields of molecular biology, genomics, and genetics. These support efforts include full project life-cycle, from requirements definition, to system and application design, integration, quality control, maintenance and end user support.
Basic and Clinical Research
MSC used biomedical basic science research to develop the tools and information needed to understand infection transmission and disease processes as well as improve treatment and prevention. Many of the studies we conduct involve extensive use of molecular biology to understand DNA, RNA, and proteins, the interactions among them, how they are regulated, and their impact on cell function. We used cell biology to study the physiological properties, structure, components, environmental reactions, life cycle, division, and death of cells. These studies are done on both the microscopic and molecular levels. Our applications of biochemistry are aimed at examining the structures and functions of cellular components or biomolecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, metabolites, and natural biological products, in our studies on infectious agents. We use biochemical applications to study the functions of cells under normal and abnormal conditions. MSC also uses genetics, neuroscience, and epidemiology in our biomedical basic science research.
